Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.

Visit the department’s website for more information about religion and ethics.

At Hawkesbury High School, SRE is delivered every Wednesday fortnight from 9.00am to 10.00am.

Special Religious Education classes (SRE) are provided at Hawkesbury High School by authorised representatives of approved religious groups.

Hawkesbury Ministers Association

The Catholic SRE provider is the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine.

Diocese of Parramatta

Attendance at SRE is voluntary and schools organise SRE according to parent wishes and the demands of the religious provider.

Students who have indicated that they would like to attend scripture lessons will do so once a fortnight. Remaining students will do revision, homework or private study during this time.

Students can change their nominated SRE class, or withdraw or join SRE class with written permission from their parent or carer.

On enrolment parents/carers will be given the SRE and SEE participation letter (upload and hyperlink our school’s letter) to complete and return. After the initial enrolment, notification of changes to a child's enrolment in SRE/SEE should be given to the school’s office in writing.
