On 22 February two of our local boys Sam Bonus – Year 10 Hawkesbury High and Michael Payne – Year 12 Colo High entered the 30th Anniversary Rottnest Channel Swim in Western Australia (as a duo team from the Hawkesbury area). The swim goes from Cottesloe Beach near Perth to Rottnest Island, 19.7 kilometres. This race attracts 2430 competitors from 18 countries. They were up against around 80 teams in their age category (28 to 50 years).
Both boys swam incredibly well in a time of 5 hours 10 minutes, they picked up 4th place against some older and more developed swimmers.
Congratulations to both boys on representing the Hawkesbury schools and achieving amazing results in such a prestigious event.
